During the storm, wind gusts toppled trees, felled power lines, and blocked roadways, leaving nearly 25,000 Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester residents without power at the peak of the storm on Tuesday, July 6 as crews worked to make repairs across the region.
As of 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, Central Hudson was still working to repair 220 active outages, that were impacting 9,801 of their customers, largely in Dutchess County, where there are 8,617 outages still being repaired, with complete restoration not expected before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night.
In Dutchess, the most outages were reported in Hyde Park (3,119), Pleasant Valley (1,718), Union Vale (1,209), Poughkeepsie (1,187), and LaGrange (726).
NYSEG was still reporting outages in Putnam (847), Dutchess (418) and Westchester (20).
In Westchester, Con Edison was reporting 12 active outages, impacting 131 of the company’s 360,045 customers.
According to officials, on Wednesday, additional thunderstorms are expected between the late afternoon and 11 p.m. and could be severe in isolated places, with moderate to heavy rain expected on Thursday, July 8 into Friday morning.
Central Hudson noted that there will be dry ice provided in the area for those who remain without power.
Dry ice will be distributed at the Home Depot parking lot on North Road in Poughkeepsie beginning at 11 a.m.; the Union Vale Fire Department on Route 82 in Verbank at 11 a.m.; and the Lowe’s parking lot on Route 299 in Highland at 10 a.m.
